Account Categories and Sub-Categories in NAV 2017

Applied to Area: Financial

Benefit: Better analysis of chart of account and financial reports

Now with Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2017, Categories are added to G/L Account:

  • Account Category
    • Predefined by system:
      • Assets
      • Liabilities
      • Equity
      • Income
      • Cost of Gold Sold
      • Expenses
    • Option field
  • Account Subcategory
    • User self-defined, which will in turn fall under the pre-defined Asset Category
    • Option field

After assigning the G/L Accounts with Categories, you can view the account balance using the account category from the G/L Account Categories table as below:

Besides the above, the Account Categories are supported by Financial reports (Business Manager Role Center), so any new G/L Account assigned with a category will automatically be added to the report itself:

  • Balance Sheet.
  • Income Statement.
  • Cash Flow Statement.
  • Retained Earnings Statement.
