Encrypting data at rest ensures privacy and security if an intruder gains access to your database.
Unauthorized access
includes physical access to your storage hardware or an unauthorized login to your database server.
Microsoft SQ DB allows encryption at the database level, however as one might expect, there will be performance and data storage impact.
A blog has revealed the following statistics for encryption:
· SQL Insert: 69% more
· SQL Read: 10% more
· Storage: 230% more
